Sauna electrical requirements, model by model

One Clearlight model plugs into the outlet you already have; the rest need a dedicated circuit that an electrician can typically add in a single visit. Outdoor saunas need a 240V run to the heater. Here is exactly what each model requires, so you can price the electrical work before you reserve, not after.

Indoor infrared models

ModelElectrical requirement
Clearlight Sanctuary 1 120V, 1,740W, 14.6 amps; plugs into a standard 120V / 15 amp household outlet (NEMA 5-15P)
Clearlight Sanctuary 2 120V, 2,260W, 18.8 amps; plugs into a 120V / 20 amp outlet (NEMA 5-20P)
Clearlight Sanctuary 3 240V, 2,680W, 11.7 amps; plugs into a 240V outlet (NEMA 6-15P)
Clearlight Sanctuary 5 240V, 3,860W, 16.5 amps; plugs into a 240V outlet (NEMA 6-20P)
Clearlight Sanctuary Y 240V / 20 amp dedicated circuit
Clearlight Sanctuary C 240V, 3,330W, 13.9 amps; plugs into a 240V outlet (NEMA 6-15P)
Clearlight Sanctuary Retreat 240V, 3,570W, 14.9 amps; plugs into a 240V outlet (NEMA 6-20P)

Two practical notes. A dedicated circuit means the sauna is the only thing on that breaker, which is an ordinary job for any licensed electrician, not a panel upgrade. And amperage is the number to show your electrician; the table above is taken from each model's manufacturer specification, and we confirm it again on the verification call.

Outdoor cedar saunas

The Serenity Mini Outdoor Sauna and the Serenity Outdoor Sauna are sold with an electric sauna heater (or a wood burning option), and electric heaters run on a dedicated 240V circuit sized to the heater chosen at order time. Because the run usually crosses a yard, the job includes trenching and an exterior rated cable.

What our Ontario installs include

Within our Southern Ontario service area, the included electrical package covers up to 80 feet of 6/3 cable, a GFCI breaker, a breaker in your main panel, up to 5 feet of trenching, the labour, and the ESA permit and inspection. Longer runs, panel upgrades and site preparation are quoted before any work begins, never discovered on install day. Details are on our delivery and installation page.

Outside Ontario

Indoor saunas ship free across Canada and arrive crated; you arrange the circuit with a local electrician using the table above. Most customers book the electrician for the week after delivery, assemble the cabin over a weekend, and plug in. If you send us your electrician's questions, we will answer them directly.
